DOWNLOAD: Streetlab - Rat Racer (feat. Noelle)

After a flood of Internet bootlegs and one original EP, rock-loving NYC remix mavens Streetlab finally enter the album realm with Auto Spkr, their debut, fourteen-track long-player that arrived just last week. First single "Rat Racer" is more of the swaggering, Need For Speed-y electro-house they've lit up our pages (and Entourage!) with in the past, but with a subtly snarky, unsubtly diva-ish vocal from the singularly named Noelle to ease the impact.

PREMIERE: Kerretta - Sleepers

For those of you guilty of assuming all Kiwis are chummy sprites forever seeking the next hacky sack, meet Kerretta—a blistering New Zealand metal trio. They make explosive rock with heart, maneuvering their angst-ridden guitars into something sparse, melodic, and at times, even catchy. Think Mogwai or ISIS, but leaner and less grandiose. Kerretta is fresh off their SXSW dates and on to the rest of the country. Those stops can be found here, while their oft-lauded ‘silent to violent’ LP Vilayer is out through Midium Records now.

DOWNLOAD: Califone - Funeral Singers + Ape-like

Califone is a band that makes makes fun, folksy, Chicagoan post-rock. Califone is a band that makes a film that looks all screwy and artsy and hilarious and ends up being kind of a big deal at Sundance. Califone is a band that celebrates this by touring with Wilco. All My Friends Are Funeral Singers is out through Dead Oceans now and below we have two mpfrees showcasing why we're into these guys and all their sweeping, strumming, twitched-out glory.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Eternal Summers - Able To

There’s an intellectual way to describe Eternal Summers, one rife with pop-punk-surf-psych witticisms, but we awoke this morning with a massive cold and therefore we can’t think straight. It’s better this way, because the Virginian duo’s “Able To” went in and out like a warm and stinging saline solution, quickly clearing the gunk from our brains with a bright wash of guitars, properly primitive drums and straightforward melodies. Eternal Summers’ eponymous debut EP drops on Chimney Sweep Records March 13th and we’re dousing early below.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Bodega Girls - Ain't That Cold

And so, after remixes and un-PC song titles, it was "Ain't That Cold" that clarified for us that Boston's Bodega Girls are basically (awesomely) dancefloor scions of the Afghan Whigs, a band doing soul music as smutty warehouse disco. We're releasing the song today through our in-house digital label, just as the band Fung Wah it down to New York this week for CMJ. Those dates and others, including a headlining show in Brooklyn at the end of the month, after the break.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Spectre Folk - Falling Off the Map

If this new Spectre Folk jam was dropped into the next Michel Gondry film, it could cure millions. As it is, “Falling Off the Map” is the first blurt from Compass, Blanket, Lantern, Mojo, the new album coming ’round the end of the month (on Arbitrary Signs) by this side/solo project from Pete Nolan, drummer-skater of Magik Markers and one of NYC’s raddest. The honeyed song drifts along on gentle, trippy impulse power; it makes your heart feel psychedelic. Grab the track below, and check out a lysergic video directed by Raymond Salvatore Harmon for another song from the album here. And — stay mellow.

DOWNLOAD: Psychic Powers - Wellington

Our friends in Psychic Powers have a new single out through the boutique label Geographic North, fourth in a series of colored 7-inches they're doing called "You Can't Hide Your Love Forever" (this one is "bubblegum pink," which is, you know, pretty rad). The a-side–a beaming track called "Wellington" that sounds like DIY Depeche Mode–is below, as is the band's Frozen EP that we put out last spring.

DOWNLOAD: Fitz & The Tantrums - Winds Of Change + Breakin' The Chains Of Love

Earlier this year, we told you a story about an L.A. musician named Fitz, who recorded his entire debut EP in his living room with an organ he bought off a tip from his ex-girlfriend. It was a good story, but the tunes were even better. Next month he's headed out on tour with Flogging Molly, where those songs will meet the bigger spaces they were clearly written for. And everyone will look really rad in suits. Tour dates after the jump, a pair of new Fitz jams just below.

DOWNLOAD: The Entrance Band - Lookout!

(Photo: Sasha Eisenman)

Guy Blakeslee used to put out records as Entrance, but since he's now noodling away with bassist Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle, Zwan, Silver Jews, a million other rad bands) and drummer Derek James, the group goes by The Entrance Band and is calling their eponymous new LP for Ecstatic Peace a debut. We're fine with that because listening to their music is like sojourning into cactus field at midnight with nothing but a jug of wine and some Gun Club records, and when doing that one cannot sweat the small stuff. "Lookout!" is from the aforementioned LP, out September 1, and came into our lives last week courtesy of The FADER.
